The LMS/LCMS/Learning Portal market continues to be strong. In my latest directory, 393 LMS vendors – global, of which 34 or so are open source systems. Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services. It was a myth.

For myself, I really enjoyed the social learning platform and select apps capabilities, more so then using it as a LMS. Don’t get me wrong, the LMS provides enough features and abilities, including the most common features, that if you want a LMS, it will work. But the real WOWSA is in the social learning component.

I mean you may look at their web site (vendor) or you may not. I still see 20-30 even 40 page RFPs that are sent to vendors. Overwhelmingly we provide some sort of training or learning to our employees or our customers. . On top of that before they even start providing support they have to go through rigorous training.

A Collaborative Learning System is different then a SaaS rapid course authoring tool. Key differences: CLSs have reports and provide some analytical data – RCATs do not.
