Two weeks ago Jane Hart wrote an article titled, Social Learning: to be or not to be? , in which Jane expresses her dislike of the term Social Learning (big S, big L). Jane claims that “Social Learning has come to refer exclusively to the use of social media in top-down, formal learning.”

Social Media included Twitter, Screenr videos, and Diigo social bookmarks. How many "learners" will benefit from this program or project? This time does not include ongoing learner support using social media and Intranet pages. I am employed as an e-Learning Designer in Baltimore, MD. .

A few astute people noticed it, wrote about it and brought it to the forefront of the learning arena. In fact, the buzz about informal learning seems to grow every day. Social learning technologies, which often facilitate informal learning, seem to have paved the way for greater interest in this approach.

Believe it or not, this training program will incorporate the following: A web-based training (WBT) course that incorporates QR Codes and social bookmarking in addition to simulations, instruction and job aids. Blogging that also incorporates use of social media, social bookmarking and screencasts (thanks Screenr and DIIGO ).

Social media - Right now I am in the midst of encouraging staff to use social media as a learning and teaching tool. Social media provides access to an immense amount of informal learning and direct access to experts outside the organization walls. Informal learning.
