Innovation was stagnant and most vendor effort was invested in stealing customers from one another. SAP acquired SuccessFactors who had acquired Plateau.

Once a darling of vendors who used it to show their demos, now? In fact, in 2019, I did not see one demo from a vendor on Adobe Connect. Personally a vendor can call their system whatever they want, but there are a few factoids to remember about micro-learning. Cumbersome? Not so much. You tell me, is that a good thing?

One competitor purchased a VLP as a key component, SAP purchased SuccessFactors, a recruiting system initially turned HCM, who had acquired Plateau, a strong but awful UI/UX LMS. Since my Top 10 list of LMS vendors has been posted online, I have received quite a bit of e-mail wondering why the biggest names: Cornerstone On Demand, Saba, SumTotal and SuccessFactors are not on the list. I have always seen then as talent/performance management platform which was becoming more of a HCM and this only re-confirmed it.

If I am a potential customer, I would expect nothing less to come out of the vendor’s mouth on their product and user friendliness. Learning Management Systems, LCMS, Learning Portals. Once you break the 25,000 plateau, you should have three administrators, one being super admin. There are people who say it, but need day to day step by step approach, a more hands-on management style. 10,001 to 50,000 employees – Two to three full-time administrators. Those folks are not the people you want.
