1,000 is the magic number for a lot of vendors. There are vendors that unless you have a minimum of 1,000 end-users (regardless if they are employees, customers, etc.) I know of vendors who will go below 1,000, but their “sweet spot”, the number they really would prefer is a minimum of 1,000. Is 500 to 999 an option?

The way a 3rd party content provider works with an LXP (or any learning system that offers a marketplace) is that they have a partnership agreement – allowing the vendor to have them in their marketplace. For example, GO1 has provided five courses/content in the past for free for some vendors. All 3rd party content is fee-based.

On top of that, there are vendors out there who change the type of system, repetitively. One vendor called their system for the longest time a “micro-learning platform” Now? Another vendor calls their system nearly every keyword for SEO purposes (you can see it on their web site). They call it something else.

In my upcoming NexGen Leader Pack (coming in late July), the majority are LMS vendors. My LMS did, back in 2000. Because, ILT, on-site, was the only way, the main way to learn (excluding the guides nobody read) didn’t and still doesn’t offer that. It was that way even back in 2000. LMS vendor.

It was clear that not even LXP vendors (as a whole) knew – which explained why they targeted L&D, ignoring the other monster in the room, training. On top of all that, the LXP vendors (as a whole) pushed a false pretense that the LXP was vastly different than say an LMS. One of my favorite early vendors was GeoLearning.

I’ve heard it from vendors. Many consumers, I surmise are doing it already without even realizing it, and even some vendors are too. Preferably on/off synch, but as I mentioned in my LinkedIn mini-post, most learning system vendors still are not on/off synch with said mobile app. An app is often listed as a mobile app.

I remember seeing some pricing online by a LMS vendor and then when I got the contract it had different pricing on it. You see they had items you needed but they did not mention it on their web site. Or there are vendors who only work in certain industries/verticals. The latter is becoming a common gripe. 2 Not listening.
