I had an online demo of Rapid Intake's new online authoring tool Unison , and I must admit I was impressed. tool which, although not free, is pretty close. Users can build their own templates using Flash and XML and share them with the authoring community. Unison has the flavour of a web 2.0

I attended the panel discussion on 'the future of rapid e-learning tools' at the eLearning Guild's Annual Gathering in Boston today with a misunderstanding. Bersin used a similar definition: "Web-based training programmes that can be created in a few weeks and which are authored largely by SMEs".

First of all this person did not like Word-based scripts or storyboards - he wanted each programme to start life as a PowerPoint that approximated the finished product. The product would be enhanced further by adding an audio narration. Fair enough. Some graphics, photos, videos, etc. may need replacing.

I don't know where this appeared from or why but it seems that Microsoft has a rapid e-learning development tool. I'm not completely convinced because there's very little information about this product and it certainly isn't being marketed heavily. It's available for free download and there don't seem to be any strings attached.

To do this I thought it was time I tried out some of these new fangled rapid e-learning tools that everyone's talking about (I know, I'm a little slow on the uptake!). I've just had to re-mortgage my home to purchase a copy of Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium (that's Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Acrobat, Dreamweaver) and I need to justify that investment by making sure I use these tools to something like their potential. Because in using Illustrator I am a complete novice.

I know the guys at Caspian well and I've had a little bit of influence on the design of this tool, so I'm delighted that they've been able to move mountains and get it to market so quickly. Post-production of video, if you're bothered with that at all, can be carried out on a tablet or with free or low-cost computer software. I remember clearly 30 years ago when I joined a specialist corporate video production company. Yes, the barriers to entry have been considerably removed, at least in terms of cost.
