In the webinar, I brought up how LMS vendors were themselves perpetuating the myth of the bad things of social media (which is a necessary component of social learning), so, rather than identify the facts and data to potential clients who are concerned about social media and thus social learning, they instead do not include it in their system.

There are dozens of free audio plugins available on the net, so why aren’t screen capturing/recording vendors offering the ability for the end user to add them? In the past it was build it yourself (pricey) or find open source and customize it (could be pricey, but cheaper then complete build). The partner approach works this way: vendor A integrates Vendor B’s solution into their product. As a result, ILT vendors are embracing e-learning through a variety of ways.

I think my dinosaur status as an instructional designer stems from the fact that Ive always worked for e-Learning vendors where the programming, graphics, and ID are distinct, separate job roles. However, a CMS as a backbone combined with other tools for a Learning Portal is a real winner IMO and a CMS combined with social media caps and/or with open source scripts as a backbone to a Learning Portal is an equal winner. Authoring tool salesperson or site makes it look so easy to create this interactive course, but unless you have an ID skill set and with tech skills, it won’t happen. E-Learning vendors offer training or tell you they have robust training, you find out it is PDF guides with an accompanying video. I was impressed.
