A colleague recently asked (in general, not me specifically) whether there’s a role for LMS functions. Should you do social learning in the LMS version of that, or have a separate system? Similarly, should you host non-course resources in the LMS or out in a portal (which is employee-focused, not siloed)?

Misconceptions?

This includes learning styles, attention span of a goldfish, millennials/generations, and more (references in this PDF, if you care). For example, that new information will lead to behavior change. Concepts like immersive learning, workflow learning, and Learning Experience Platforms (LXPs) are some that are touted without clarity.

Misleading Malarkey

Employment sector will phase out LMS systems and replaced with AI-powered compliance tools. Without practice, watching entertaining and informative material (e.g. edutainment) isn’t a path to learning outcomes. TikTok and YouTube shorts will ultimately replace high schools and universities.
