Using Authorware , learning professionals could create learning programs with hyper-simplistic designs, primarily through dragging and dropping icons. While powerful for their time, these tools were not easy to use, requiring complex programming skills.

First up is Storyline from Articulate. Storyline is a desktop authoring tool which Articulate would probably position alongside their current Studio suite of Presenter, QuizMaker and Engage, but for me this is definitely a replacement. You can import from PowerPoint or Articulate Studio tools if you need to. So what's special?

Most of it came, via 3rd party providers, or what we referred to as “boutique shops” – think custom development (fee-based) that someone, company, government, institution, and so forth hired to create a course or courses. Articulate and Adobe definitely did damage to the market, again, with their original RCAT.

This is not the same thing as picking some templates and scenarios and building, rather a strong sim will expect you to have instructional design and e-learning development skills. One sim tool I know costs 25K per license, but the majority of pure sim tools in the market cost way way below that. . If you are new, you can build.
