The dominating authoring tool by far, was Authorware. Think of today, and Articulate Storyline fan base. Authorware usage and fan base made Storyline supporters and usage look like a rock stage at a state fair. There are even fans today of Authorware, who if it was still around, would bounce right into it. Not so much.

Product Review – Articulate Storyline 2

Articulate Storyline 2. Yeah, they added new features and new capabilities, but they also took a product that even “Articulate folks” I talked with told me that Studio users using Storyline would have a learning curve. Articulate and a few of the other big dogs are holding on to desktop for dear life.

Articulate, Captivate, Dreamweaver and Lectora Tops in eLearning Authoring Tool Satisfaction

This data shows that the Articulate tools, Adobe Captivate and Dreamweaver and Lectora are near the top for elearning course authoring. While tools such as Toolbook and Authorware are down a bit. I was somewhat surprised that my post: Course Authoring and Rapid eLearning Tool Satisfaction didn't generate more interest.

Acquistions – Someone had an idea

Someone came up with the idea to create templates for developing courses quickly – and no, it wasn’t someone from Adobe or Articulate. I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. Not Articulate. At the time, I hated it.
