I recommend having a motivating example before you bother showing learners the things theyll be able to do afterwards; if they dont understand why its important, they wont care what they can do. Belatedly, Im thinking that there are relatively easy ways to enable learners to have cake or to eat it as they see fit.

For example. If I notice Im losing someones attention in class, Ill instantly make direct eye-contact, maybe raise an eyebrow, and start talking directly to that student, and most of the time. Im the same when teaching face-to-face -- big user of the laugh to create connection. you get their attention again.

Im a Word power-user and love all the little tricks and shortcuts. I agree that it will be a process of Conversion by Example. I started off cutting and pasting a lot of documents from Word into the wiki. Now Ive left Word behind and am writing everything directly in the wiki.
