A new tool, Hootcourse, has recently emerged in beta testing and is so far proving a useful, friendly space for aggregating conversations. Hootcourse assigns a unique URL. Learners can access Hootcourse via either Twitter or Facebook. See [link].

For example: @newdaynewlesson: Make your type left justified. blogchat is a great example of what a CoP does. Participants wanting feedback submitted their blogs for consideration; 4 were chosen this time with a promise that others would be considered soon. Centered screams amateur. Hard to take you seriously.

Give examples of the kinds of things to use it for to get people acclimated/started. -You want leaders to contribute consistently -- even if it's just once a day, a reply to an employee. Write up the "rules" or expectations for your boss person to distribute. Fear is often not knowing what to say. Modeling how to use is important.

Social media and government started not with some policy or memo from the senior leadership, but from regular people sitting in a cubicle who saw an opportunity and decided to do something about it. They didn’t see a policy prohibiting blogging and say, “oh well, I guess that ends that.”

I keep seeing lots of "tips for using social media tools in training" but not many concrete examples. Certainly the bigger goal is to help training become less an event and more a process, and to support ways for workers to form communities and interact with one another -- not just with the trainer.
