for Learning Professionals , hosted at Ning by Michele Martin , Harold Jarche , and Tony Karrer . By the way, the Work Literacy Ning is free, and it will continue to be a valuable resource after the workshop has concluded. For example, I was inspired by the Work Literacy Ning to start this blog, and I didn’t have to pay hundreds, perhaps thousands, of dollars for a F2F registration, travel expenses, hotel fees, and time away from home and work.
This post was spurred by Tony Karrer’s comparison of Online Conferences and In-Person Conferences .

My guess is that most everyone who saw it prior to the session had taken my advice from long ago Stop Reading - Skim Dive Skim and really just skimmed it. Social Learning Communities It was interesting that ASTD DC / Todd Slater has created a Ning community. our LearnTrends site that’s hosted by Ning, is an issue. I recently posted my Top 10 eLearning Predictions for 2010 and did a presentation on the topic. You can access a WebEx recording of the presentation here: https://nethope.webex.com/nethope/ldr.php?AT=pb&SP=MC&rID=58772167&rKey=9ac6286700094e6f

Henry Ford or even David Geffen… feed the machine, keep it running smoothly, pay as little as you can, make as much as you can. Here is Seth Godin being interviewed by Hugh Macleod :
In a stable environment, we worship the efficient factory. In our post-industrial world, though, factory worship is a non starter.

Also recognized: Facebook and NING
All It is happening in free tools like NING or in less-structured, less-resource intensive environments like Confluence.
Congrats As followers of this blog and of our reserach well know, social learning is changing the learning industry in ways both explicit and implicit. It is not surprising then that ELearning Magazine now includes a social learning tool category in its yearly awards .

I've been exploring Ning a little further than I did and compared it to other forums like socialgo, collectivex and grou.ps . Gro.ups is open source, has a lot of similar functionalities to ning (and more- you can upload files easily) and is also without advertisements (for free!). The advantage of ning is that it is slightly more attractive in look and feel. Besides it is getting very popular. If people already worked with ning before, it might reduce the learning curve in learning your way around.
