Drupal in Education and e-Learning

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

Moodle is already such a fabulous open source system for education that I'm excited to see Drupal compares. The book is due out sometime in October 2008.  The video below is of the author presenting a session on Drupal in the Classroom. I just found out about this book from Helge Scherlund's eLearning News Blog. I'm a big fan of Drupal.

H5P

Anyone can setup a free account with H5P or you can install it as a plugin to WordPress or Drupal. We recently discovered H5P , which allows you to create, share, and reuse interactive HTML content. H5P allows you to create a variety of different content types. Check out two examples below: Sample Image with Interactive Hotspots. Sample Interactive Video – Check out 3:23 and 4:57. . We have found that many of the H5P exercises aren’t keyboard accessible, so be sure to include alternative activities. eLearning Tools Online Learning h5p html5

10 Open Source e-Learning Projects to Watch - They missed Drupal

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

Okay, so Drupal was not specifically created to support education and e-Learning.  I'll be posting my review of the new book:  Drupal for Education and E-Learning soon.  However, its a powerful open source web framework that has grown a supportive developer base over the years and is getting much more user-friendly.  But for now this post is about e-Learning Open Source Projects.

from Moodle community.   I should add there are systems built on Drupal, DNN too. Right now you are probably in one of three camps when it comes to open source LMSs, specifically Moodle: Huge fan and most likely have it. Not a fan of it. Thinking of soup, I mean Noodles! And you may be thinking, okay, here it comes – here comes the “hate” with Moodle. . humbly thank you; well, well, well. Moodle has a very hardcore fan base and I applaud that. . Who are the core of these fanatics?  Anyway, it is education.  This is Moodle’s core audience.  Uh, no not even close.

eFront

This means that you’re not restricted to customizing your homepage, but you can create a full, beautiful and extensive web-presence solely with eFrontPro and without having to pair it with another CMS like WordPress or Drupal (though, of course, you can always do that too, if you want). Let’s get site building. This allows you, for example, to have a “Register Now!”

Lullabot is a company that specializes in Drupal (opensource content management system) development/workshops/training. stopped listening a while ago when I stopped working with Drupal. If you are not a drupal user or a techno-geek, then try to ignore the techno-jargon and just listen to how they talk about the dojo, the phylosophy, the how and why it works, and the passion. Other opensource learning stuff: If you are interested then you should also check out DrupalEd. DrupalEd is an active community of Educators using drupal for educational purposes.

The OpenSource Learning Hat-trick

Elgg and Drupal are working together. And the best part is MOODLE is next in line. Woohoo!!! Now that's a hat-trick made in open source heaven. But wait. Add SLOODLE into the mix and now your really onto something HUGE

Top 10 tips for creating a learning website

Spicy Learning

Just as Moodle provides provides a great starting point for an effective learning management system (and can be used ‘out of the box’ for hosting one or two courses), open source content management systems such as Drupal, Joomla and WordPress are the place to start for most website requirements. More and more often, a website is part of the blend for a successful change campaign. The most obvious example is a learning programme which engages with a wide, public, audience. website is the logical solution. Decide on the content first. What’s your call to action? Use an open source CMS.

FastCompany goes Social.Drupal-style and Visual.DanRoam-style

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

The new social network of FastCompany.com is based on the CMS Drupal. Drupal is very powerful and I've found it quite useful for many web projects. The latest FastCompany issue has been sitting on my desk for a few days now. finally picked it up and its full of surprises. As business magazines are going under (remember Business2.0) FastCompany takes a risk and goes with a new model. But before I tell you about that I wanted to point out the Article titled The Napkin Sketch. Check out this great podcast interview. Buy it NOW ! They had online journals (through a Drupal/WordPress application), classroom, traditional learning, Cornerstone as their LMS (had to do some legwork to get Cornerstone to integrate with xAPI -- it''s on Cornerstone''s schedule of summer of 2015 to adopt TinCan - but for Pandora they had to do some additional work. These are my live blogged notes from Andy Whitaker''s concurrent session here at ATD TechKnowledge, happening this week in Las Vegas. Forgive any typos or incoherencies. But if you try to understand how learning is impacting the business, you might be spinning your wheels.

Tool Set 2009

Tony Karrer

In fact, the top results such as Drupal and Blackboard are likely there because people are discussing how they don't really support PLEs. I thought I'd kick off this year by posting a series of posts on topics related to tools and methods for work and learning. I'm hoping to address questions such as: How do you create a personal tool set or Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for yourself? What should be in your tool set? What are the most important methods to adopt in addition to the tools? Should twitter be part of your tool set? Tools to Make Reading & Research More Effective.

My programming skills are so lame, I just locked myself out of my personal Drupal environment and can’t find the back door to get in. Hence, I’m turning my attention to something simpler: EtherPad. Give it a shot

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: The Corporate Moodle: A Tipping Point?

And “in times like these…&# Why pay for a pricey LMS when you can Moodle or Drupal or Sakai ? Drupal can be a little tougher to crank up, but they're coming on stream as well. However, it has a lot of reporting features, it recently developed web services which have enabled links to an Oracle system for automated registration of users from an organizations' HR module, and to Drupal (see Dokeos module in the Drupal repository). Cammy Beans Learning Visions Musings on eLearning, instructional design and other training stuff. Wrong. Support.

Test LMS

Clark Quinn

The eLearning software I saw was: ATutor Claroline Docebo suite Dokeos DrupalEd Interact Moodle SyndeoCMS It also has a bunch of content management systems, a CRM (SugarCRM) and others. In the past, I've had a few posts around how you can test your courses under an LMS: SCORM Test Test SCORM Courses with an LMS One of the problems cited was the lack of available LMS test environments. Recently I've seen two possible approaches that seem quite interesting - although we've not yet tried them (so I would love to get feedback). You can use a free-trial and then test.

What’s New in Adobe eLearning Suite2?

It also has code hinting structures for popular CMS like Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal. Adobe recently released eLearning Suite 2 comprising of Captivate 5, Flash Professional CS5, Dreamweaver CS5, Photoshop CS5 Extended, Acrobat 9 Pro, Presenter 7 (available on Windows only), Soundbooth CS5, Bridge CS5, Device Central CS5 in it. Thankfully, Adobe Apple fight is not affecting everything).

The Corporate Moodle: A Tipping Point?

Learning Visions

And “in times like these…” Why pay for a pricey LMS when you can Moodle or Drupal or Sakai ? Richard Nantel of Brandon Hall recently posted about average LMS prices. A ‘low-cost’ LMS starts at an average of $58K. That’s the low price. Which is still a whole LOT of money. Why do companies continue to pay huge dollars for products that are now being offered for free? Web conferencing services like DimDim now offer the equivalent of WebEx. For free. (I’m a recent convert, perhaps on the path to open source evangelism.) So what are some of the hurdles to overcome in the corporate market?

Moodle Course Conversion

Jay Cross's Informal Learning

Unlike Drupal or ELGG, Moodle enables you to set up courses and learning environments without any programming skills… as long as you have a step-by-step guidebook like this one. Moodle is an open source course management system with a wide following. The Open University in the UK uses it to support 200,000 distance learners.

Stephen offers the following tips: place yourself (not the content) at the centre of your own learning network; organise your knowledge (eg build your own CMS with Drupal ); simplify your learning by summarising it; and accept the fact that you can’t read it all, so choose what you need now and let the rest of it go – if you need it again in the future, it will be on the Web somewhere.

There’s a handy-dandy glossary of social network terms you should know, lifted from O’Reilly without comment: Buddy List, Drupal, Flickr, IM, Jabber, Long Tail, Microformats, News Feed, OPML, Second Life… If I were a business person who had never heard of social networking, I imagine I’d be more confused than ever after reading this piece in Forbes.

OpenAcademic.worth watching

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

This is the marriage of Elgg, Drupal, Moodle, and Mediawiki. Like I said a few posts back, we are at our worst when we try to create our own learning system thingy. However, OpenAcademic is not about an enterprise vendor riding the latest trend. Its like the snickers bar of learning: Lots of the most yummy open source platforms rolled into one. This helps answer many of the questions I receive like, "how do we decide which to use, wikis, blogs, or social networks", or "how can we make them work together". The bad part is now I need to update my presentation slides to add this.
