My Goal: Better E-Learning Interactivity

Experiencing eLearning

The Learning Circuits Big Question for April is. What would you like to do better as a Learning Professional? My overarching professional development goal right now is to improve the interactivity in the courses I develop. Because we’re a small company and a small team, any interactivity needs to be something I can do myself-there’s no Flash developer to pass it off to.

Newsnight - Paxman KOs Brain Gym founder

Lars is Learning

Just watched Jeremy Paxman do his usual combative stuff interviewing the US founder behind Brain Gym - in the words of the Newsnight blog: Brain Gym is a programme used in hundreds of schools across Britain - backed by the government. It's a series of daily physical exercises that are supposed to aid learning - by stimulating the vital organs. Many teachers - and many pupils - are convinced it.

Indicator of Valuable Content

Tony Karrer

I saw a post by Christy Tucker that pointed me to a feature in Diigo - their site community. It feels like a combination of del.icio.us and MyBlogLog. The nice part is that you can see it for every site - even if the site owner hasn't done anything. So, I was able to look at the eLearning Technology's Site Community. While it shows me something about the people, what I found really compelling was looking at the Popular tab which gives a pretty good indication of what the best content is on my si

Social Learning Objects - Flash Cards

Tony Karrer

I was contacted by Mike Hogan, the creator of Flashcard Friends. This is an interesting little application and might imply a few things around where things are going. FlashCard Friends does a lot of what you'd expect in terms of creating Flash Cards for students. It's well designed and very easy to use. It also does some interesting things: Allows users to categorize flash cards, mark them as being associated with particular text books, and then helps with the sharing of content.

I grabbed this image from Alan Pepofsky's blog. One can not be the all time 24/7 police of content accuracy -- which many of us in learning and train oftentimes want to do. I am guilty of sometimes being a control freak. Unless we let go and trust others to be part of a self-policing community, we will be sad and overworked social networking leader.

The most recent was a comment by Bill Brantley who generally agreed, but added: In Boy Scouts, I use to teach wilderness survival which required a lot of memorization. You couldn't count on having the Boy Scout Manual with you during a survival situation so I had the students memorize what plants were edible, different ways to purify water, and first aid techniques.
