I recently engaged in a conversation with someone who suggested I was way behind the curve in adopting a better notetaking tool. There are a lot of tools out there in this space. I need to believe that I could get my notes out of the system later if I decided I needed to switch tools. No Lock In. Better Copy to Clipboard.

Maybe I've not been paying attention, but in the webinar that I just finished, the tool GoToMeeting had a neat feature that showed the percentages of people who were paying attention (had the meeting visual in the foreground) vs. those who were not paying attention. I'm going to want them in my virtual meeting / classroom tools going forward.

I wasn't able to go to the panel session at eLearningGuild, but there are a couple interesting posts on it and some debate around the purpose of these tools. I agree with Clive that this is part of the intent of rapid eLearning - pushing the tools to SMEs to allow them to easily create small information nuggets.

However, I found little value over using separate tools such as Yahoo Groups and a PBWiki. Because of this I could easily have used another two weeks to more gradually introduce the tools. I was somewhat surprised that my post: Course Authoring and Rapid eLearning Tool Satisfaction didn't generate more interest. This data shows that the Articulate tools, Adobe Captivate and Dreamweaver and Lectora are near the top for elearning course authoring. While tools such as Toolbook and Authorware are down a bit.
