In an interesting episode last year, I personally experienced the power of the viral web through Wikipedia Commons. I took several pictures of Punk Godfather Malcolm McLaren when he spoke at Handheld Learning 2009 in London. Subsequently others loaded it up in several versions to Wikimedia Commons. Licensing your content under a Creative Commons agreement that allows for repurposing or remixing provides an opportunity and invitation for others to translate your slides or blogposts into another language. There were several images I could have used to illustrate this post, but all were protected by a copyright licence.

My Teaching with Twitter post from January 2009 is still going strong with 12,000 views. We can debate the ethics of changing a blog post once it has been posted, and yes, there are those who take content under Creative Commons licensing and repurpose it, translate it, embed it. There's little that can be done about that.
