The ASTD Big question this month is an annual question: What did you learn about learning in 2009? So, I teamed with alumni Robyn Defelice at Dishing Design and updated the article for ASTD. The Metro DC ASTD chapter asked me to do an interview about audio in e-learning and I linked to the interview and shared some of my notes. Frank Nguyen is presenting at ASTD on EPSS. One of the points that Frank made that I had to jump on at the session and mention Work Literacy was that even though most people know how to use Google search, they wouldn't find it to be an effective tool. You can find his presentation on his site. His major points were: Search is not an effective method for performers to find information. Integrating information closer to the work flow and work interface can improve performance. Novices cannot effectively use the same support systems as experts.

How Google’s Designers Can Help You Build Better E-Learning

Rapid eLearning

I read this interesting article the other day about how Google’s designers changed the look and feel of their products. That’s what Google ran into. That’s probably what the Google designers did. They presented then-CEO Eric Schmidt and other leaders with a set of four different concepts, with themes like making Google more like desktop clients, or differentiating products by color. In the Google example it looked like they presented too many choices and the lack of clarity made it seem no one was really convinced that one was better than the other. Tidbits.
