I've read the an older blog post on Online Master's program's , but I am still quite lost. Right now I'm leaning towards the University of Colorado Denver or the San Diego program.

Visual Thinking - Do You Have Questions?

Tony Karrer

I've been having a bit of dialog with various folks from the VizThink conference about whether and how much Visual Thinking relates to eLearning. See: Crash Course in Visual Thinking VizThink and Visual Thinking and Learning - Still Not Sure for background. These discussions have diverged into a discussion of whether I'd get value personally from the conference given my past challenges with being able to figure out how to create diagrams.

Gamer 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 or 4.0?

Kapp Notes

A while back I had a discussion with Cammy Bean of Learning Visions about what level of " gamer " she was and even if she was a gamer at all. No resolution was ever reached but her post Are You a Gamer? generated many comments. Well the controversy may be over. Several excellent students (Nicole Clark, Heather Gee, Aaron Kennelly and David Robbins) created a fun little assessment tool called Gamer Rater that helps you determine what level of gamer you are according to Games, Gadgets and Gizmos f

Using A Game to Teach History

Kapp Notes

Check out this TeacherTube Video about how a teacher is using Civilization III to teach history. Good stuff. It sure beats a memorization and repetition of facts. I especially like the viewpoint of the kids playing the game and learning history. Also, having a sceptic who eventually converts is a nice touch for the piece.

What is to Come in 2008

The Learning Circuits

As I read the blog I'd like to post a few updates on our research and predictions for e-learning in 2008. 1. Social Networking is hitting the corporate scene, driving tremendous demand for informal learning, or what we call "learning on-demand." The solutions organizations are looking for include blogs, wikis, and communities of practice. The CoP companies we talk with tell us that their businesses are booming (Tomoye and Mzinga being two which focus heavily in this space).

What if I don't fancy a balanced meal?

Clive on Learning

Earlier in the week, in Blended Learning's a Balanced Meal , I posted my views on what an effective blended solution might look like, and used the metaphor of a balanced meal, i.e. one that contains an appropriate mix of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and so on. It's healthy and it's nutritious. The blended learning equivalent might contain some asynchronous activities, some group work, some one-to-one interaction and so on, carefully designed to achieve the learning outcomes, with due

It's a webcast for edubloggers only, in which a new online initiative is being launched. Main speaker will be Professor Diana Kleiner, Deputy Provost at Yale.

Videos Versus Narrated Photo Slideshows

Vignettes Learning

Can narrated-photo-sideshows work in lieu of videos? Of course, it can. But there are good reasons to use video. To name a few: Presenting highly motivational leader, like the CEO in orientation programs. Showing complex operations of an equipment or skill, like a surgical procedure. And many other reasons. However, if you are cost conscious and must produce video like narrated photo case studies, interactions, or illustrations, the narrated-photo-sideshows might do the work.

Blended learning's a balanced meal

Clive on Learning

I sometimes use a series of slides to try and get across what an effective blended solution might look like. I start with what it is not: It is not a series of choices - in this case a cooked breakfast, cereal or a croissant. When you offer someone a choice of ways in which to undertake a learning activity, you may be doing them a favour by allowing them to express a preference, but you're not providing a blend.
