Reports, factors and the current market conditions strongly indicate that elearning is going to be a growth industry over the coming years. This leads to a growing increase in the need and acceptance of online learning in a variety of industries.

Every year Training puts out a “state of the industry report&# well worth the read. Here are a few highlights: Average training expenditures per learner in 2010=$1,041. Average hours of training per employee=40.1 (up up 9 from 2009). 32% of training budgets decreased in 2010. 61% of Mandatory or Compliance Training is delivered online.

When used for training, it allows learners to participate in simulated scenarios — such as an industrial accident — that would not make sense to do in practice, so that emergency personnel can explore how to respond most effectively. A virtual environment also offers a persistent setting that can be revisited as needed.

I think it is natural churn in a market that is fast emerging but some of that churn can seem unfriendly and one can certainly see the industry as "half-full" as the analogy goes. There is a great deal of "churn" in the 3D virtual immersive environment space. However, I think it is just part of the evolutionary process.

The move includes the elimination of 11 positions, the spokesperson said What does this mean for the learning and development industry? I don't think it will mean a whole lot as much of the monies and advertising dollars in the past few years have gone toward technology focused trade publications in our industry.
