Sure, Sony has found great success with SharePoint, but take a look at the resources available to them. SharePoint can be a wonderful solution for the right reqs, but first and foremost, SharePoint is a content management system. It depends. Dragon Alert!

Using SharePoint

Tony Karrer

I've been having fabulous conversations about using SharePoint. SharePoint is so flexible and the documentation for it is so big and diverse, that a big part of my goals have been to understand the different ways that training organizations are using SharePoint. In my post SharePoint Examples there are some great examples in the comments. In this post, I wanted to capture some of the patterns of use of SharePoint that seem to be emerging. Obviously, there is a spectrum of using SharePoint to support collaboration and using it to publish. were similar.

What’s a SharePoint Saturday like?

SharePoint and Assessment

It’s 6am in London on a Saturday morning, completely dark, no sign of dawn, the only sound I hear is an owl hooting. I’m off to SharePoint Saturday UK, set in the historic town of Nottingham (famous for persecuting Robin Hood, the outlaw noble who stole from the rich to give to the poor). SharePoint Saturdays are community events, free to attend, paid for by low-key sponsors.

Top 10 LMSs for 2013

Rankings are based on my directories which are updated monthly; I also keep a separate directory which will contain more vendors than listed within the visible directories – reason being it offers clients (those who hire me – buyers to have an added bonus, of course it contains much more info); that said the monthly directories provide key info and in future updates have new columns added. Marketplace now included courses you can buy from other content providers – how is this different from some vendors of today who can add content from 3rd party vendors, when you call them?

Integrating with SharePoint : Intranet to Internet

SharePoint and Assessment

He’s worked with Blackboard, Moodle and Sakai as well as SharePoint and in this guest post, shares his perspective on SharePoint. My first real encounter with SharePoint was about 6 years ago when I was surprised to find that a small project pioneering the use of mobile devices in education had built a collaboration environment based on SharePoint. What set SharePoint apart in those days was its role as a development tool. SharePoint was a natural choice for developers who were already using a Microsoft platform to work on and who wanted to develop a website.

SharePoint Observations

Learning Developments

I've started to work with Microsoft SharePoint for a lot of projects lately. People Don't Use SharePoint. People don't use SharePoint because it is not easy to access and documents are hard to find. Now, I know this is not true of all teams within organizations that use SharePoint. We've got a lot of good files on SharePoint. These teams also have their own reasons for not using SharePoint: The search function doesn't work well. People don't use SharePoint because they have not seen best practices. Improving SharePoint. Its not intuitive.

Sharepoint for Learning and Communication: How can corporate learning and development staff use it more effectively?

Bottom-Line Performance

What does Hoarders have to do with Sharepoint collaboration spaces and training? Don’t get me wrong, SharePoint is tool that can work to support learning quite well. One of the benefits of a collaboration space like SharePoint is that many people can share and upload content. SharePoint doesn’t have to look like the above screen show with left and top navigation.

Collaboration: It’s Not About Technology, It’s About the Culture

Digital Asset Management – LCMS, ECM and SharePoint

Tony Karrer

Vic provides the following list of reasons that companies use his digital asset management software for eLearning projects: The companies that employ our target audience strongly discourage employees from putting company assets on ‘public’ sites. Is there a need and desire for software or software as a service that provides digital asset management as part of eLearning projects? Does the LCMS already provide this for you? Theoretically, this provides this same ability to organize digital assets so they can be shared by developers. Am I wrong on that?

Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS) for Managing Course Assets

Tony Karrer

They have Articulate courses, classroom courses, SharePoint sites, etc. And they currently manage all of this using what I’ve seen at a lot of companies: network drives, naming conventions, some SharePoint. But I’m not sure they line up with what most LCMS packages provide – unless you decide that you will use it as a super-authoring tool. In Digital Asset Management – LCMS, ECM and SharePoint , I talk to how ECM (Enterprise Content Management) solutions might be a better fit for parts of this. Or are they really using SharePoint or other ECM products for that?

#HRTECH Learning Vendors Preview – Who to see and who to avoid

eLearning 24-7

They actually have two learning management systems, but for whatever reason, they are pitching their SharePoint version.  In the world of SharePoint LMSs (defined as those who are built on SharePoint, rather than API or interface to SharePoint), ELF’s system works. . The system was in my top 50 in 2015 and 2014.  I mean if you are a hardcore SharePoint person who wants an LMS built on SharePoint, then ELF is a serious contender (there is really only one other who is close, but they are not at HR Tech, so sorry, no name mentioning).
