For example, in a Klint Finley interview called Five Principles for Improving Social Enterprise Adoption , Yakabod CEO Scott Ryser cites the importance of “political juice.” The more important missing piece for gaining user adoption of enterprise collaboration tools is less obvious.

That concerns me because I’ve been blogging a lot about a revamped learning model which relies heavily on Web 2.0 technologies to support informal learning. In the back of my mind, I realise that revolutionising the learning model in this way would shock some organisations. An Informal Learning Environment (ILE) empowers them to do just that.

A few days ago my Internet Time Alliance colleague, Harold Jarche, shared this article, written by Deb Lavoy, with me: Social Business Doesn’t Mean What You Think It Does, Neither Does Enterprise 2.0. Learning and self-expression are exploding. The changes we are seeing in Workplace Learning are of course just one part of the changes we are seeing in businesses as whole. Simply replace the word “business in the quote above with the word “learning and it still makes sense. We are interested in good information design. It is a sea change.

It’s to be a source of information and insight and a catalyst for dialogue and debate. Here are four questions I’m asking about learning and development in the new year. Is classroom learning on life support? We’ve all seen the headlines – informal learning is where it’s at these days. Yet the most used learning delivery method for years running remains, you guessed it, classroom learning. Formal on-the-job training and synchronous e-learning were tied at a distant second, with 18 percent. Is the future of learning increasingly cloudy?
