I also don't like the repetition of information much; I've seen whole presentations which seem just to repeat buzz-word bullet points and leave crucial questions unanswered. Apparently, Pecha-kucha (Japanese for chatter) was started in 2003 by Tokyo expatriate architects Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein as an alternative presentation format.
