Wow, these sound a lot like principles from theories we study in the design of instruction. Sounds like what he is talking about in describing meaning.

Coherence Principle– Exclude extraneous words, sounds, and video. In five out of five experimental comparisons, students performed better on problem-solving transfer tests when they studied animation and narration without rather than with extraneous words, video, or sounds.

On this day, we also did some recording of screen captures and some software in the recording booths at Lynda.com. We had booth five. The final day, we shot in the classroom.

moment – A “wow” moment could be a camera movement, a particle effect, a sound or an interraction. Explain how the stock environment can easily be changed, the characters will change to the appropriate ones and any sounds or atmospheric, immersive aspects will also be changed to the appropriate ones for the final simulation.

Feedback in Learning Games

Examples of this could be a crackling sound of nearby fire or the player’s health meter dropping to show they are being harmed. Immediate feedback is also important when the player is getting information about a changing game state that they must rapidly respond to.
