Selling E-Learning as a Freelancer

Experiencing eLearning

I received another question from a reader today that I’m hoping someone out in the blogosphere can help answer. Usually I think of freelance e-learning developers developing content for a specific client with a specific audience in mind. However, this reader is looking for something else: Which sites, if any, accept e-learning courses from freelance courseware developers?

Brain 2.0

Tony Karrer

I had a nice six hour drive today with my wife, Margaret, who is an ex high school counselor and teacher along with all the normal credentials and masters degrees, etc. Part of our conversation was in my changing belief about the importance of learning a bunch of facts that someone can look up at a later time. Does a student really need to know all the state capitals?

Memory research round up - Cholesterol

Lars is Learning

Over the past month I've managed to collect an interesting range of research snippets relating to memory and cognition. There's definitely a sense of acceleration of activity in this area, which unfortunately also brings with it its own hype and hysterical headlines. Over the next few posts I'll summarise the ones that most caught my eye: Cholesterol and Memory People with high levels of.

Service Providers - How Do You Find Good Ones

Tony Karrer

Within a few hours of each other, I received two requests for referral to service providers. One request was for eLearning development providers from fairly large 5,000+ employees based in the US. We've looked at a few eLearning vendors and haven't been thrilled. We found the three US vendors expensive and/or light on good ID and the India-based vendors (Tata and Brainvisa) are priced really well, but would require more extensive project, quality and ID management.

Summer 2008 Learning in 3D Class: Four

Kapp Notes

Overseeing the interesting structures built by students. Second Life class last night had to go on without me as I was "in-the-air" to Texas during class time due to the perils of air travel. So we had a guest speaker who covered basic scripting and some semi-advanced building. The class is coming along well and we have a number of machinima videos coming to YouTube by the end of the semester.

Great post from Karyn Romeis - Either it matters or it doesn't. It discusses the all too common issue that learning professionals receive assignments to create learning solutions only to find out that the client doesn't really know what they want/need, and worse yet, really don't care, or the audience isn't willing to give time / attention to it, or you lack SME attention, etc.

The Rapid Elearning Blog. Escape from Compliance Training Jail. January 29th, 2008. 30 comments. Every two years I take my car in and have the emissions tested. The goal of the test is to certify that my car meets specific emissions standards. If the car passes, I am certified and I can move on. However, if it doesn’t pass, then my car has to go under a different series of tests (and perhaps repairs) to get up to the appropriate standard and certified.

This is definitely a rough draft, as it is going to be an ongoing project throughout the ed tech program at San Diego State.

Recording Virtual Field Trips

E-Learning Acupuncture

Two colleagues of mine, Susan and Christine, had a great idea! They wanted to do a virtual field trip in Second Life for students in a graduate course they are designing. However, they didn’t want students to have to get their own Second Life account in order to experience the field trip. So they wondered if they could ‘record’ the instructor experiencing the field trip and simply show the recording to the students.

Intodit allows you to establish a group site with a combination of wiki and forum functionality. It does this without undue complication and I can see it being a great way of focusing attention on an educational topic or project.
