When writing the whitepaper about Casual games , I did a fair bit of research and looked at several hundred web links. While doing so, I documented a few of the better ones. I’d been mulling posting these to the blog. So here they are – a Top 100 Learning Game Resource list. Instructivism, constructivism or connectivism?

Instructivism is dead. Gone are the days of an authoritarian teacher transmitting pre-defined information to passive students. In the 1990s, constructivism heralded a new dawn in instructional design, turbo-charged by the rise of Web 2.0. Students morphed into participants , empowered to seek new knowledge and understanding for themselves, in the context of their own unique, individual experiences. In turn, teachers enthusiastically transformed themselves into facilitators , guiding and coaching the participants to inquire, explore, discover and even generate new learnings. Slippery slope.

There are many things to think about when creating eLearning. There’s no way that I can mention all of them in this post but I’d like to mention a few that come to the top of my mind. Course Outline / Storyboarding. Know the audience. Find good SMEs. Always create an outline of the course. Storyboarding allows you to structure content flow. Decide what knowledge/skills need to be taught first. SMEs can take a glance at the flow and content. Content creating will go more quickly. (it’s faster than creating content and then starting over). Learners scan, they don’t read.

The amount of time, effort and money wasted on formal ILT training prior to rollout or upgrade of enterprise platforms (particularly ERM and CRM) and other new software systems is really quite amazing. In the November Issue of TJ , Des Woods and Henry Marsden have an article called “How professionals learn” As the former head of learning at Ernst & Young and head of professional development at Linklaters, Des is writing from considerable experience. This is a great article if you are relatively new to professional services in your L&D career, especially if you’ve worked in a different industry previously. There were 3 things that really resonated with my experience: Professionals want learning in small chunks as the pressure to remain chargeable is high.
