Studies on infant brains have shown that knowledge retention is only possible when accompanied with personal interaction or activity, but this becomes even more important as people get older. Adults must be socially stimulated to learn, which is why language retention is usually only successful for adults when they are immersed with other language-speakers. social media | JANE HART'S PICK OF THE DAY JANUARY 13, 2010 ibrii - save and share everything you see from web pages Ibrii allows you to snip every content you see on a webpage, save it directly into your ibrii account and share everything with your friends using instant messaging, social networks and blogs. By registaring with ibrii you can keep track of all your saved snippets, organize them and search into your personal archive. What is ibrii? First of all, can a synchronous communication channel, like instant messaging, do as good a job as email when it comes to handling all that valuable and necessary communication? You can also take your time and provide a considered response to an email; there is no opportunity for reflection with instant messaging. The same story was picked up by Mark Bethelemy in Internal Communication - Beyond Repair? Babies and bathwater come to mind. | | | | | | | | | -
CLARK QUINN | MONDAY, AUGUST 25, 2008 Tools Used gmail, Google Reader, Instant Messaging, istockphoto, LiveJournal, Multiply, Netvibes, Pandora, Wetpaint, Wikipedia, Wordpress. I've been working with Steve Wexler and the eLearningGuild on the eLearning 2.0 survey and report. Some interesting data points are coming out of the study. Right now there are more than 1000 respondents. I've not really seen good numbers on what people are using as part of their day-to-day lives. Here are some numbers that confirm a bit of what we thought and a few surprises. More coming on this. The charts below show use of different tools, sites, etc. MORE >> -
LEARNING JOURNEYS | THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2008 Twitter for Learning I thought Twitter was nothing more than instant messaging on steroids. I am a Johnny-come-lately to the Twitter scene (Twittersphere). Forget information overload. I saw it as information suicide. Experience has changed my mind. It’s Thursday evening, Thanksgiving Day in the United States. I’ve been following the #Mumbai hash tag on Twitter, and it has been a learning journey in more ways than one. I’ve learned that Twitter can be a source of up-to-the-second information from around the world. No filters. No holds barred. It’s mind-blowing. MORE >> -

All of the data comes from surveys to the eLearningGuild membership (which is more than 30,000) and typically they have 2,000 - 3,000 respondents on surveys which is large enough to get pretty good indications. KAPP NOTES | FRIDAY, JULY 16, 2010 Change Our Traditional Approach to Education They continue to push consumer companies for more connectivity, more ways to create their own content and more access to information through instant messaging applications and voice activated internet search. While kids are growing up with cell phones, internet access, virtual worlds and a culture that rewards creating digital networks and online content, the basic instructional paradigm for teaching those students has not adapted to the explosive use of technology among the culture of third millennials.
