In preparation, we came up with a bunch of things that one would need to know when creating a social learning strategy. Each one could take a deep dive, but we wanted to make the list available. We hope this will help to spark some imagination and help you see, as you plan and implement, some areas you may have missed. Here is the list in document form. This work is under the Creative Commons Share Alike license. ). Please feel free to add to the list in the comments below. What is it today? | ENGAGED LEARNING SEPTEMBER 29, 2009 I Finally Get It – Why Social Networking is So Important You would think that after all that I have read, all that I have practiced, all the classes and conference sessions and keynotes I have given, that I would have understood this point. Yet I did not – at least fully. There was something missing and it has been bothering me, but I never have let it stop me. That is how I work. Today, I get it – finally. My point? To tell stories. | | | | | | | ENGAGED LEARNING AUGUST 18, 2009 CMS vs. Web 2.0 vs. Social Media – Do You Know the Difference? On the SLQOTD on Twitter today, I am asking “What is the difference between a Web 1.0, CMS, Web 2.0 and Social Media.” Here is my take: Web 1.0 is a push from one ‘person’ to many people. To make a change or add, it often has to go through a process if internal to an organization or the person needs to know HTML (I am making some generalizations here, but go with me…) There is one person who owns the content and who is the authority. It is focused on the information or document and the user cannot customize what they want to see. Others can go get it. call it a 1:portal:1 model. Web 2.0 | ENGAGED LEARNING FEBRUARY 3, 2010 Rahaf Harfoush on the Lessons Learned From The Social Obama Campaign After Dave’s keynote at Training2010, Rahaf Harfoush , author of Yes We Did, spoke after barely getting off a delayed plane. And we are very glad she made it! It was a great presentation that gave me a lot of wonderful ideas. These, again, are my raw notes… She wrote, “Yes We Did” on using social media for building the Obama brand. Overarching Themes. Power of strategy in an integrated media campaign – this is a win for strategy. They planned how and why they were going to be online and what they were going to do. Online organizing = offline action. Action. Change.) Iterations –. | ENGAGED LEARNING DECEMBER 8, 2008 Social Learning Question of the Day (@slqotd) Tomorrow @slqotd will start with its first question. The Social Learning Question of the Day will simply do just that - throw out a question about social learning to the twitterverse and allow anyone to answer. Since we all have differing experience it would be good to come together and learn from each other. So, jump on board: Make sure you are signed up on Twitter. Follow @slqotd. It will automatically follow you back (it may take an hour, however). Each (business day) morning a new question will be asked about social learning. This will go to everyone who is following @slqotd. | ENGAGED LEARNING NOVEMBER 10, 2009 Blogs – Day 2 – How Blogs Are Used Week 1: Blogs: Day 2. Photo by ShashiBellamkonda on Flickr. Why would someone create a blog and write posts? Let’s look at two different areas: Outside to the world and inside within an organization. Outside to the world. have some information I feel is worth sharing. You are reading this blog and learning. Look at that. Purpose #1 complete. There are other purposes. | | | | | | | | | -

ENGAGED LEARNING | MONDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2011 MacroWikinomics: A Book I Had To Put Down There are bad books, good books and great books. Bad books I don’t want to finish. Good books I read right through and finish. Great books I never finish or it takes a long time to do so. Because I become inspired by an idea I must put the book down and go off on my own ideas that have flooded my brain or do more research. Such is MacroWikinomics by Don Tapscott & Anthony D. Williams. Not, “such was but “is because I still have not been able to finish the book. Within the pages of the book is nothing short of world changing should the ideas be implemented. MORE >> -
ENGAGED LEARNING | TUESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2011 When I Grow Up (Video) – We Never Intended to Work This Way When we were young, the stars weren’t even the limit. We had our goals high and proudly told others what we were going to be when we grew up. As we grew up, plans naturally changed, and we adapted. But who would have thought we would have spent a lot of time on activities that would be of marginal value? Inspired by a previous post I wrote on ways of working (which has a positive spin on it) with a cameo by the Monster.com commercial , I created this video. When I grow up, I want to stay until 5, even when I have nothing to do. want to suppress common sense for company policy. MORE >> -
ENGAGED LEARNING | TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2010 Baby Boomers vs. Digital Natives – Let the Debate… End At the NASA IT Summit a few weeks ago, the famed Nick Skytland of NASA gave a really good session on the use of new technology by the “Digital Natives and Millenials (those who grew up using this new technology). He talked about how those entering the work force were different because they didn’t need to struggle to understand the technology as opposed to Baby Boomers to whom this technology is new (speaking in general terms). And a year ago and more I would have agreed. don’t any more. And we both agreed with her. Then, it became a hot topic. Now that is fading away. MORE >>
