Working Smarter , the 2010 Edition, regularly sells for $19.98 (hardcopy) and $12.00 (download). This week the hardcopy version is marked down to $16, the download to $10. Here’s an excerpt. I’m investigating the price-sensitivity of demand. The price will probably go up again next week.

Often a batch will hang during upload, warning me that I’ll lose the download if I interfere. Currently I’m uploading my vacation pics, largely in batches of three or four; it’s time-consuming. After twenty minutes, I’ll switch pages and find that my photos had uploaded; the notification page was in error.

The download version of Working Smarter costs $12.00. Buy the download. My publisher’s algorithm won’t let me charge $20 even. I figured $19.98 was better than $20.01. Buy the 240-page hard copy. I prefer the hard copy myself but your mileage may vary. And of course you can get the soft copy right away.

If these guys’ stats are accurate, they’ve downloaded more copies of my book on Informal Learning for free than Pfeiffer has sold! I have asked my editor for Wiley’s take on this. If someone is giving my books away, I’d rather it be me.

Jay’s new un-book Working Smarter (available in on-demand paperback or PDF download ) examines how to boost an organization’s collective brainpower. Paperback copies cost $16; downloads are $10. Unfortunately, the next thing you heard was probably something akin to “know what I mean?”. Article continues here. Buy here.).

I discovered a nifty Flickr downloader named Bulkr. $30 30 later, I have the ability to download batches of Flickr photos by set (or, for that matter, to back up my entire Flickr portfolio.) I downloaded the 2011 photos to a USB stick and put them in an electronic picture frame.

Today, Ning made a bunch of free apps available for download. I have added five of them (Ning’s limit) to the Internet Time Community to assess how they work. Since the top menu of a Ning community is limited to 14 items, I collapsed some links into sub-categories. Mouse over Add-ons to see the new apps.

Pragmatic and grounded in experience, this is a re-think of how upgrading an organization’s brains can increase profits, spur innovation, and help businesses prosper. The Working Smarter Fieldbook is an unbook. It’s in beta. Expect rough edges.

I could download Groundswell to my Kindle for $7.99 (the dead-tree version is $19.97). The download was wireless and painless. Kindle recommended half a dozen books, the same personalized recommendations I would have gotten online, but still: custom recommendations, collaboratively filtered just for me. Personalization!

Worse still is the free program I downloaded from the net. We wish to bring to your notice that you have an Accrued Interest worth of $775,500.00 usd (Seven Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand Five Hundred United State Dollars), in our Bank to claim. The software used to work just fine. It took a couple of hours to remedy the damage.

It is a free download. Adobe Digital Editions has a great feel to it. It’s intuitive. Kevin Kelly has released a new edition of Out of Control : The New Biology of Machines, Social Systems, and the Economic World. I first read Out of Control a dozen years ago while on vacation in Switzerland. Out of Control is profound.
