Online models allow for better matching of students to tutors and more cost effective models. One interesting model is social homework help provided by Cramster. When I was a professor, I normally tried to start my lectures by setting up the problem. And since I was teaching techies who are natural problem solvers, it engaged them in something they love. There's no problem, but it is ironic. If you define a problem, such as playing chess and you say that requires intelligence - the moment you write a program that solves the problem, then you redefine what it means to be intelligent because in hindsight its pretty obvious how to play chess. In fact, you have to wonder if the model that Steve Fox is heading towards where he maintains a paid content writing/publishing staff isn't going to still have major problems. Perhaps the biggest problem for blogging is the time it takes to read and write blogs. Later in the book, Davenport discusses the importance of the use of networks as part of problem solving. But I believe that blogging falls into the unproven category. I know of no organization in which the benefits of blogging have been measured.
